CCA NEWS- 19-30 October

Issue#25 #elections #midterms #calendarchange

Hello parents, teachers, and students.

We have been receiving different feedback from different families on the progress of their kids at school. We are happy to receive any feedback because it helps us modify and/or hear the voices of our community.  One of the activities we have had on our agenda for more than a year now was having a once a month informal meeting at school for parents.  We are calling it “Coffee with the Director”.  It will be held at school between 8:00-8:30 with a member of the leadership team.  Teachers are welcome to join but it is not mandatory.  We will notify of what the topic will be prior to each meeting. Additionally, you can email or text topics you would like to include in future meetings.  Remember this is not a parent teacher student conference.  It is a way for us to share ideas and have positive discussions.  There will be meetings in which the floor is open, meaning no topic.  As the name suggests, “Coffee with the Director;” we will serve coffee, tea, and a few snacks such as fruit and /or breads.  Our first meeting will be 04 November 2020 at 8:00; hope to see you there.

We would like to request that students bring their Teddy Bears or preferred stuffed animals to school again on Tuesday, October 20.  We will be doing PHSE activities during the next two weeks of school in which we will use their stuffed animals.

As you know we are in an election year.  Election in Zanzibar is on October 28. Recently we received communication that Election Day is now a public holiday.  Therefore, school will be closed on October 28.  Additionally, we will be closed on October 29 and 30 as this was our original school pause.  We will resume on November 02.

If you have been following our school calendar, you know that Maulid Day was also expected at the very end of the month.  However, as per communication out of the president’s office; Zanzibar will now celebrate Maulid Day on October 19. Therefore, school will be closed.

We will start mid-terms 20-23 October (Tuesday-Friday).  All classes will take mid-terms/ assessments. This is a mid-term check to see what students are retaining and how they are progressing. All subjects with the exception of art and STEAM will have an assessment.  Please see the exam schedule below.
