Dear CCA Community, Happy New Year once again. At the start of this term we want to welcome Mrs. Saumu as the new year 1 teacher and nursery/reception teacher assistant in the afternoons. She is from mainland and is accompanied with her little daughter. She is replacing Ms. Eglah. She has background education and experience working with children ages 3-7; and came highly recommended. Next time you are on campus, and see her around, please say hello to her.

During this term, you will see some school improvements and developments taking place. We will discuss these school grounds changes during the next “Coffee with the Director” on 13 January 2021 8:00-8:30. More than ever, students must keep shoes on during recess or any other moment in which they are on the playground. Our Gardner does a daily sweep, however, we should all be vigilant. We need to minimize injuries during playtime and the possibility of stepping on natural objects (pebbles, insects, or twigs). Moreover, during the coffee with the director meeting, we will discuss an upcoming field trip to Recycle OZTI on 18 January. This trip is for kids to experience the process of what we discard to ultimately being reprocessed into something reusable. This trip will serve to help students visualize the amount of waste humans produce and the time-intensive work it takes to sort items. Lastly, we want students to commit to reducing waste, but also contributing by sorting their waste on school grounds. Families can also contribute by bringing in approved items on the Recycle OZTI RECYCLE list to school and deposit in the Recycle Ozti dropbox. As an extra incentive, classes that collect between 2-10 kilos of approved items that can be recycled will trade it in and earn a class gift from Recycle Ozti.

The month of January we have organized a staff CPR and first aid training at the Urbancare Clinic with Dr. Jenny. This is a long overdue training since 2020 prior to the Covid-19 shutdown. Unfortunately as we were planning to schedule this training; all schools were asked to closed as a safety measure to stop the spread. Now is the time to get it done without further adieu. Later in February we will organize for students to receive a child friendly version of this training which will include hygiene.

Lastly, some of you may have started getting an email about a school student account. We are updating our internal system and adding student information so that report cards and attendance among other things are easily accessible for parents. However, we will need 2 email addresses per family in order to complete the setup. Please send two email addresses to admin@ccazanzibar.com by January 15.
